Anti-Racist Reading Group

We are postponing our November meeting, originally scheduled to discuss voter suppression covered in the film All In: The Fight for Democracy. Although the 2020 elections are (mostly) done, the work for a more perfect democracy continues. Next year, we’ll have city-level elections for Mayor, Comptroller, Public Advocate, Borough Presidents, and City Council Members. We’ll update details for the next meeting soon.

About this reading group: Science is not immune to sexism, and it’s definitely not immune to systemic racism. 500WS strives to make science inclusive by fighting oppressive societal norms. In this group, we come together to discuss our thoughts, what we’ve learned from our readings, and what we can do in our own lives and institutions to address systemic racism.

In addition to being a space to learn together, we’re using this group to hold ourselves accountable. What actions and/or projects are you working on?

This is a virtual event, the Zoom link is shared with pod members on our mailing list and Slack. Not a member? Join us!
